Can I Qualify for Medi-Cal if I own a Home?
Medi-Cal is a needs-based program that will pay, depending on the circumstances, for all or part of a person’s care at a skilled nursing facility. Because the program is needs-based, the applicant must demonstrate s/he has limited resources. Some assets are considered exempt. A home, if it is your principal residence, is exempt and will not be counted as a resource. Owning a home used as your principal residence will not preclude you or your loved one from being eligible for Medi-Cal.
Medi-Cal planning is complicated and is best done with the advice of an attorney.
